Terica My name is Terica and I am 22 years old. I attend the best University in the nation which is none other than Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA. I am a senior who will be graduating in May 2008 in the empowering field of social work.

“I will change the world”. That is the quote and drive that you must keep in your heart as a social worker. It’s not a naïve statement. It’s simply a goal that if everyone adopted the world would have no choice but to be a better place.

I am from Fresno, CA and yes, to me, it is as bad as Tunie from the television show “Girlfriends” claims it is. So as soon as I graduated from high school I took a huge blind leap of faith across the country and landed in Baton Rouge, LA and I’ve never regretted my choice.

During the spring of 2007 I was a HIV/AIDS peer educator for my University along with 12 other young women. I presented information about contraceptives and condoms, talk about issues confronting our campus, and provided locations for counseling ans STI testing. We also held a HIV/AIDS conference where the turn out was phenomenal. I want to continue this type of service.

My ultimate goal is to travel abroad periodically lending my services to mentally and physically disabled communities. I partly agree that people and children are a product of their environment. However, I wholeheartedly agree that each individual determines her final destination. Too often in our life we allow our stepping stones to become our stumbling blocks…and we loose sight of our own goals, aspirations, and dreams in the process. I choose to aim high, for success and gain every joyous aspect of life that I deserve. However, you are welcome to come along with me and enjoy the ride of determination to the destination…SUCCESS!!!
