I am a 23 yr old student who is excited to help you with anything you may need. I first became involved with this program after exploring the site and reading about current issues .I wanted to be a part of the organization, so I decided to apply to be a peer educator. I thought that the work this organization was doing was great, and just wanted to help in any way I could. So, now I am a peer educator. I am here to serve young women of color with sexual health and reproductive issues via email. I provide resources and information to answer questions. I am involved because this is a much needed position that can bring help to those who need it most. I am confident that I can help with almost anything. I am knowledgeable in many areas of sexual health from contraception to childbirth. Also, I know a lot about substance use/abuse and how to tackle addiction.
Being a wife, a young mother, and a full time student, often leaves me with not much time to do lots of things, but I try to stay up to date with current issues by just actively engaging in any public forum. I am constantly looking for productive volunteering opportunities, or public demonstrations to take part in. I really believe that the power belongs to the people. The question is, will we utilize that power?
My plans consist of finishing school, possibly attending law school, and fighting for the rights of those who need it most. I plan to always stay involved in revolutionary activities because it takes a lot of work to gain those victories that we need so much. I’ll never feel completely comfortable with life, until I know that everyone is treated equally. I will fight for that all my life.
We all come from our own places. My place just happened to be what was dealt to me. I grew up in a non-diverse environment where my culture was repressed rather than nurtured. Only through my own journey through my teenage years and now through my young adult years, have I gained my own perspective on who I am and who I am becoming. My journey was tough, with the climax of my youth being drug addiction, but I made it through it all to become the person I am today. I am an honor student in the process of transferring to a university, where I will eventually attend law school. I have made choices that have slowed my path, but I have also learned to make choices that have shown me what true success is; and the truth is, we define our own success. Now, I live my life in a responsible way because I share it with those who love me. I have decided to accept the responsibility of consciousness which includes the area of social issues and injustices. I have dedicated my knowledge and power to positive change through hard work and love.
