What MySistahs Means to Me
Sistah
strong with quiet love
or soft with an open heart
SHE is a blessing from
some fairytale place in some magical time
we need her because SHE is
someone we could never be
and we want her because SHE is
someone we dream exists
but then
as beautiful as the reddest rose
SHE is a neighbor, a friend, a mother,
a teacher, a grandchild, a lover, an artist,
a diva,
an athlete, a preacher, a girl
who with each stride gives us all
faith in ourselves.
- Alicia
My sistahs... a unity of all colors, race, and creeds!
My sistah
you, her, she and I
all together;
an eye for an eye
No difference between you and me
skin, bone, flesh, and soul
love, hurt, pain, and all
united by one word
segregated by our own world
learning to live
learning to be
establishing all there is to see
My sistah
there is more to you and me
then just what we appear to be
Diversity
our main theme
challenging what any man has seen
My sistah
how much longer will you and I not be one
come together for what needs to be done
a common cause should be our bond
before we all disappear and are gone
- Lazara
sistah
intelligent, strong
united through color,
trials,
and triumphs
we are beautiful
and determined
we are women
we are sistahs
- Megan
We dont look the same, think the same, act the
same
Yet we are joined together in this journey by an
indissoluble bond
One that empowers us to provide strength for the
other when weak
One that compels us to encourage one another when
down
One that defies stereotypes and idiotic boundaries
Our love is unselfishly unconditional and grants
us the freedom to
communicate effectively and compassionately with
one another
Brought together by the destiny of providence our
future is promised to be bright because we have
each other as guiding lights
You are more than my friend, more than my companion
You are My Sistah

*sisters*
my sisters (whom i do not own) are a circle, unfolding
the fullness, expansive.
women, lesbians, differently abled, queer, transgender,
drag kings and mysteries, genderbending feminine-wise
widening and holding
touching.
this is an affirmation.
we are sensual.
this is a cry in the night.
we need each other.
this is a prayer.
we, alone, learn of ourselves, learn of our inner
lives.
together, we share and know difference.
sistahs sisters: differences are places where we
overlap
unfold
and create new spaces, reclaim the ones that were
taken away.
there is a coalescence of blood
water sweat
tears anger pain
fear love trust
and
the vulnerability
to look unguardedly
into each other's eyes
as women with bellies as bodies, with hearts beating.
sisters are people, whole.
sisters, a word.
an invocation - "sistah, i need you"
a provocation - "we be sistahs"
a challenge - "we are chosen sisters, we were not born of the same bodies,
of the same colors, of the same class, gender, religion, gender, but we hold
hands in defiance. i choose to trust you. i choose to grow with you, learn with
you, to understand."
that is my promise, my weakness, my vulnerability.
please forgive me my mistakes,
tell me when something hurts you.
allow yourself the space to create boundaries.
and allow me to create mine.
live inside of yourself and live mindfully of other walking talking eating loving
fighting people
in mind
...and live between
the layered memories of collective stories of women
who came before and the wIMMIN we/us/i are/is/am now.
together both/and apart
let every day be a celebration of life
and the beauty of connection.
i subjectify you, we become mutual.
i join you in the journey,
my sistahs.
